    Position and Title:
    Chief Executive Officer/Medical Director-

    The CEO/Medical Director reports directly to the President/CEO of the health system and Board of Directors.

The CEO/Medical Director provides leadership, direction, and coordination for all the cancer care within health care system. You will develop and lead the Oncology Practice Group into a cohesive, coordinated clinical delivery system with a structure that will support the provision of the best possible cancer care services.

    The Organization:
    The health system is the largest oncology network in the state. The network includes nine (9) Cancer Centers providing treatment to 6,000 new cancer patients annually. It is a powerful collaboration of researchers, community physicians, and health care facilities that offer state-of-the-art cancer treatment. The premise of the network is to facilitate the integration of evidence-based clinical care with state-of-the-art cancer diagnosis and treatment capabilities allowing the delivery of the latest therapeutic options to physicians and patients in communities throughout the region.

    In late 2012 our client will open the state’s first proton beam therapy center; a reflection of their commitment to providing the most current and modern technology to the care of their patients. The $65 million project is expected to draw patients from neighboring states and Canada. At full capacity, the Proton Therapy Center will have the ability to treat 750 – 1,000 patients a year for cancers of the prostate, pancreas, lung, head and neck, breast, colon, eye, and digestive system.

    The health care system is one of the top 25 integrated systems in the United States with over $5.6 billion in annual gross revenue and over 200 facilities serving a 48 county market with a population in excess of 6.7 million. The system includes ten (10) hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, freestanding dialysis centers, a regional network of cancer centers and providers, an employed primary care and specialty physician network, assisted living facilities, commercial HMO, PPO and Medicaid HMOs, home health care and hospice, durable medical equipment, retail pharmacy services, and a wholly-owned medical malpractice insurance company. The system has 17,400 employees and more than 11,000 network physicians.

    CEO/Medical Director Responsibilities
    In this role you will:
    -Serve as CEO of the Oncology physician team.
    -Provide leadership, direction and coordination of all cancer care centers.
    -Lead the Oncology Practice Group, including recruitment and team management.
    -Integrate initiatives throughout the system’s hospitals and physicians engaged in the treatment of cancer.
    -Business development, strategic planning, and financial management.
    -Lead oncology growth and market share initiatives.
    -Standardize oncology clinical practices.
    -Foster patient referrals at Cancer Centers along with affiliated physicians and subsidiaries hospitals.
    -Establishes new sites as opportunities arise.
    -Chair the Medical Advisory Committee and the Administrative Oversight Committee.
    -Co-chair the Clinical Cancer Research Center Leadership Group in partnership with the Hematology/Oncology Division Head from local university.
    -Work with oncologists to continually expand patient involvement in clinical trials including partnering with university faculty in disseminating of clinical trials opportunities to all patients.
    -Oversee Continuing Medical Education Program and is involved in oncology organizations regionally and nationally.
    -Survey national trends in the use of technology to improve cancer care and advocates for technology investments at locations.
    -Assure patient access to the latest cancer clinical research opportunities.

    Qualifications and Experience Required:
    -MD or DO Medical Degrees.
    -Trained and Board Certified in an oncology specialty.
    -Significant practice experience in an oncology specialty.
    -5+ years managing/leading a large community or academic oncology program.
    -National reputation for leadership in cancer programming, teaching, and/or research.
    -Success in collaborating with physician leaders, finance, HR, and healthcare executives.
    -Committed to quality clinical care and evidence based medicine.
    -Demonstrate excellence in human relations and outstanding communication skills.
